Songwriter Studio is a lyrics editor for iPhone and iPad. It started with a simple frustration: the apps fast enough to write in knew nothing about rhyme, syllables or chords, and the ones that did were too clunky to actually write in. So I built the one I always wanted.
Why I built it
Most songs start in a notes app. They shouldn't have to stay there.
I'm an indie developer, songwriter and musician, so the problem was personal. A phone's notes app is where countless songs begin: a hook on the bus, a verse before bed. But a notes app doesn't know that your second and fourth lines rhyme. It can't tell you a chorus line runs two syllables long. And the moment you edit a word, the chords you carefully lined up above it slide out of place.
Songwriter Studio closes the gap between "good enough to catch an idea" and "good enough to finish a song." It keeps the speed and feel of a plain text editor, then quietly adds the things a writer actually reaches for mid-draft: rhymes that surface as you type, syllable counts in the margin, chords that stay locked to the words beneath them.
I'd tried the other songwriting apps. Some buried the writing under menus; others bolted a rhyming dictionary onto a plain editor and called it done. None of them felt built by someone who actually sits down and finishes songs, so I made the one that did.
Every feature earns its place by solving a problem that came up in a real writing session. If it didn't help finish a song, it didn't make the cut.

Syllable counts
A count in the margin of every line, so your verses scan before the melody has to fight them.
Chord notation
Type chords in square brackets and they stay anchored to the right syllable, even as you rewrite the line.
Song structure
Label your verses, choruses and bridges and the app maps the shape of the song as you go.
Real-time collaboration
Share a link and write together, live. Your co-writer doesn't need an account to join.
Export & ownership
PDF, plain text or MIDI in a tap. Whatever you write leaves with you, whenever you want.
What we believe
Your lyrics are yours. We never see them.
Our philosophy is simple: the tool should serve the song, then get out of the way. That shapes everything we build, but nowhere more than privacy. Songwriting is personal, often long before it's finished, so Songwriter Studio keeps every lyric on your device and syncs it through your own iCloud account, never our servers. Rhyme detection, syllable counting and analysis all run locally on your phone. Your lyrics stay yours: unread, unstored, and never sold.
